The importance of hosting IP events

What are your key takeaways of the IP World?

My key takeaway from the event so far has been the speaker Patrick Patnode, President of Licensing, GE Ventures, who came to talk  to us about General and Electric, and what they’re doing in terms of licensing their IP, it’s fascinating to find out how that’s being used internally and being promoted in the business. He shared insights in to the importance of these partnerships and why this approach to licensing helps accelerate the roll-out of breakthrough technology that can transform industries, driving growth and improving lives.

What is the main benefit for you and for your organisation of participating in and sponsoring an event like this?

The main advantage of Withers and Rogers being involved in an event like this is the fact that we get to speak to people within the industry in a very relaxed, informal setting. We get more than just the normal business transaction. It allows us to understand the market better, to make new friends and to meet existing contacts.

Why do you think an event like this is good for the industry more generally?

I think holding an event like this for the industry more generally is very useful. IQPC brings together people from all across the IP spectrum, and seeing everyone together in one room is really useful. You get an idea of what’s happening within the industry, the current trends which allow us to have a collective conversation.

Out of interest, is it this particular event that interests you because it’s cross-industry? We also hold events in life science, and oil and gas. Is there something in particular that made you want to be part of the IP World event, as opposed to something more niche?

The IP World event is particularly interesting because it isn’t sector-specific, providing us a little bit more flexibility in terms of who we’re speaking to, which works really well for us.
